11 December 2018, Gasa:

“..All I can say to you is that in a small nation, society – whether it is the general public or the private sector – will always follow the bureaucracy’s example. Therefore, you must set higher goals and work harder than others. Your principles and actions must be a model of service to the people and country…” His Majesty’s Address to the Nation, National Day Celebration, 17 December 2007.

Coinciding with an auspicious time and day, this morning, fourteen civil servants (I silver and 13 bronze) of Gasa Dzongkhag were honored the Royal Civil Service Awards at a special ceremony in the august hall of the Dzongkhag Tshogdue graced by the Royal Portrait of His Majesty. Marchang and National Anthem were offered to mark the importance of the event.
At the 105th National Day celebration in 2012, His Majesty the King in the Royal address to the Nation expressed about the need to institute awards for public servants. Then in the following year in 2013 at the 106th National Day Celebration, for the first time the Royal Civil Service Awards was instituted and launched by the RCSC. The awards comprise of medals that has the Royal seal and an embossed image of His Majesty and certificate with Royal signature. Four categories of medals are awarded depending on the numbers of years in service as detailed below:
A. Dedicated Service Award: Bronze medal for 10 years or more; Silver medal for 20 years
B. Lifetime Service Award: Special Gold medal for superannuated public servants.

These awards serve two noble purposes, viz. to motivate, recognize and thank the serving and retired civil servants and to encourage and motivate the new and young civil servants. Over the years, we believe the envisioned purposes of the Awards are being realized. The recipients wear these medals with pride and confidence on every important event and occasions and the award of these medals take place just before the National Day so that the new recipients can adorn themselves with the medals at the National Day Celebration, which is undoubtedly the biggest event of the year.

At the award ceremony, some Award recipients have expressed that the medals will be a constant reminder of their responsibility to the Nation Building, while all others have joined the Award recipients in rededicating their highest commitment to serve the Tsawa Sum and expressed gratitude to His Majesty The King for gifting us with such beautiful honor and for always being the Greatest of Inspiration.
