Gasa joined the Kingdom in celebrating the 111th National Day. The overriding spirit of the day was the love, respect, and gratitude to the Selfless Monarchs of the Peerless Wangchuck Dynasty. Everyone remembered that it was on 17 December 1907, when the combined destinies of the people, country and the protecting deities of Palden Drukpa that put Gongsar Ugyen Wangchuck as the first hereditary King of Bhutan, thus ushering the golden era in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Notwithstanding the various challenges, we can still confidently and comfortably say, ours is a Happy Nation with happy citizens we are on our way to becoming Great under the stewardship of our Great Kings.
On this auspicious and momentous occasion, we the people and civil servants of Gasa Dzongkhag rededicate our commitment to serve the King, People, and Country to our fullest.
As part of the celebration, a total of 185 individuals from all walks of life including few from outside the Dzongkhag received Awards of excellence and Certificate of appreciation for their outstanding and special contribution to the vision of Good to Great Gasa.
The most prestigious award of the Dzongkhag, viz. Annual Good to Great Gasa Awards was received by 1. Tshewang, Mangi Ap of Laya Gewoh 2. Nima Norbu, Offtg Dzongkhag Livestock Officer 3. Karma, Dzongkhag Finance Officer
The following recipients are from outside Dzongkhag, viz. Chencho Dorji, Actor, Thimphu for his participation and support to all the three Royal Highland Festivals.
Dr. Ritu Verma, Anthropologist, a visiting researcher with ILCS, Takshi – for her great support to Dzongkhag. Dr. Ritu has been writing numerous articles on Royal Highland Festival, Laya and Gasa in Kuensel and Tashi Delek and social media. She has also participated in all three RHFs
3. Deki Dema, Principal, Wangbama for her support to the Gyalpoi Tozey students from Gasa Dzongkhag, particularly those from Lunana
4.5.6. Dorji Wangdrup, Tashi K, Tshering Zangmo, the principal, vice principal and matron respectively of Muenselling School, Khaling for their support to the two visually impaired students from Gasa Dzongkhag.
7. Jamyang Pelmo for serving as the founding Manager of the Gasa Soechu Company.
Cash prizes and certificates were also awarded to the top five trash collectors. In pursuance to the Clean Gasa Initiative, the competition was held over 9 months.
