Wophu is a beautiful place which is 4.03km away from Gasa Tashi Thongmoen Dzong. With the great concern and affection from the Golden Throne for the livelihood of the Highlander (s), the people of Laya and Lunana are very fortunate to receive land kidu from His Majesty The King at Soenagasa, Punakha on 21st February 2020. The kidu land has been initiated by His Majesty the King with the vision to improve and sustain the livelihoods of the Highlander (s) as their respective winter residences.  His Majesty the King has granted land kidu at Wophu for the people of Laya Gewog benefiting 197 households. Winter is not far away for 2021 and we expect Wophu to resemble a mini town or a model village. It would be a rare scene that our Layaps would be seen temporarily pitching their tents in the open field, by the road side and thick forest. People are already in an ecstasy mood as for them, they have a reason to celebrate and cherish the Royal Soelra received from His Majesty The King. 

To realize the profound vision of His Majesty the King, the Royal Government of Bhutan has supported the Dzongkhag for construction with basic amenities at Wophu. An approach road of 1.725km and retaining walls has been completed within six months as the first package of the project. In the second phase, the Dzongkhag has a plan to construct a PCC drain with soling of an approach road, water supply and clearing of forest/bushes of around 2,561 acres of land.
