Dasho Thinley Namgyel, Secretary to Gross National Happiness Commission and a team from Local Development Division was on official visit to Gasa from July 5-6, 2020. On July 5, 2020, the team visited sites funded under Small Development Project including Koina bridge and Laya GC road. The team met with staff of the Dzongkhag today at DT Hall. The meeting kicked off with offering of Zhabten to His Majesty The King praying for His Majesty’s good health and happiness. Dasho Dzongda, expressed gratitude for GNHC’s initiatives and guidance in his welcome speech. Gasa is the 17th District the team is visiting and applauded the Dzongkhag for completing close to 70% of SDP projects despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.
According to Dasho Secretary, of 17 NKRA’s under the 12 FYP’s objective -Just, Harmonious and Sustainable Society through enhanced Decentralization, six NKRAs are under risk from accomplishing the desired targets. However, GNHC was glad to unveil that Bhutan would be doing little better in certain fields relating to food security, cultural diversity, Environment and Health.
In continuation, District Planning Officer presented on overall revised budget and expenditure with detailed activities in 2019-2020 FY affected by the pandemic-2019including overall challenges and key attraction of the Dzongkhag. In this challenging time, led by Dzongkhag Administration, the civil servants, Dratshang and other Co-operatives have implemented activities such as Zhiwog Lamtoen Dumra and Gomo Lhatsho Dumra- initiation on agriculture farming by civil servants and Dratshang to strengthen food security.
The team advocated the hall on SDP and encouraged the sectors to front load the essential activities which can enhance the livelihood of the people of Gasa. GNHC is anticipating any proposals that will bear far reaching impact in improving the livelihood of the people.
As we move forward in the next FY and coincidentally holding an interior budget meeting among Gewogs and Sectors the next day, the timely visit by the Dasho and the team is enlightening and valuable.
