A half day Awareness Raising Workshop was conducted by Draktsho Vocational training Centre for Children and Youth with disabilities . The visiting team of three members represented two from “Draktsho” and one from the INGO “Opening Heart to Bhutan”.
The was attended by the staffs of Dzongkhag Administration, Regional Offices and the Local leaders.
The workshop mainly focused on changing the societal attitudes and perceptions about people with disabilities so that they can be embraced by community members in their daily living and work spaces. They also reminded us about the role and responsibilities as parents and as a community.
The participants expressed appreciation and gratitude to Draktsho for being the pioneer and leader in mainstreaming of the special (disabled) population in our country.
Draktsho was established on 2nd October 2001 with blessings from Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck, and on 26th November 2010, it was registered as Public Benefit Organization under Civil Society Organization Authority, thus becoming a Non-Governmental Organization. Draktsho is the only parent-initiated Vocational Training Centre in Bhutan that works in the area of disability. The founder Rigzin Padma Tsogyal started Draktsho at friend’s garage with four students with disabilities now caters its service to almost 200 children and youth with disabilities.
