10th Edition Olympic Day observed at Gasa.
In keeping with its vision of taking sports to all youth in the country, the Bhutan Olympic Committee organized the 10th Edition Olympic Day Celebration at the Bjishong Central School, Gasa today.
Although seen as international effort to promote fitness and well-being, the Bhutan Olympic Committee tried to engage as many sports enthusiast as possible to let them experience the Olympic Values of Friendship, Respect and Excellence, in addition to the Olympic ideals of Fair Play, Perseverance and Sportsmanship.
"The objectives of the celebration are participation in Olympic sports, meeting Bhutanese Olympians, learning and practicing Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect to people and introduce sports to children.
Over 500 students took part in various sports such as Athletics, Boxing, Badminton, Shooting, Volley ball, Archery, Lawn Tennis, football and basketball.
The BOC hold the Olympic Day in a different Dzongkhag of Bhutan each year. This allows the governing body to take sport to all areas of the country.
The Day concluded with a mass cleaning campaign and friendly matches of Football, Basketball and Badminton among partakers and organizing committee.
As we embark on a new era of sports in Bhutan, initiated under the Royal Command of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck and guided by the leadership of His Majesty’s Representative to Sports, HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, we look forward to the unwavering support of all of our stakeholders and of being a part of the continued growth, of the International Olympic Family around the world.
